This listing includes a large, mature Java Fern mother plant specimen. These plants are well-established and offer immediate impact compared to smaller, newly propagated plants.
Microsorum pteropus, commonly known as Java Fern, is a classic aquarium plant in the planted tank hobby. A fantastic choice for beginner aquarists, it has earned a reputation for being extremely hardy and able to tolerate a wide range of aquarium conditions. Recently reclassified as Leptochilus pteropus, this plant is still widely known in the aquarium hobby as Microsorum pteropus. Its bright green, broad foliage makes it ideal for filling in larger areas of an aquascape right away.
As an epiphytic plant, Java Fern grows best when attached to driftwood, rocks, or placed into crevices within hardscape. Its larger size makes it especially useful as a focal point or for quickly establishing a more mature look in planted aquariums.
Like most aquarium plants, it can be grown in low tech setups, though CO2 and added nutrients will improve growth and overall appearance. Be sure to keep the rhizome above the substrate to prevent rot. Propagation is easy—simply cut or divide the rhizome and reattach as needed.
